Stella needs improved pain control while managing the risk of interactions with her other medications
Hello, my name is Stella and I am a 68 year old school secretary. Several years ago, I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the hip and spine. Although my doctor has prescribed a pain medication, my pain remains severe enough that I may have to retire if I am unable to continue doing my job.
As I have gotten older, my doctor has added different medications to my daily routine, including a pill for high blood pressure, a blood thinner, and an opioid to help manage my pain. When he recently prescribed an anti-depressant for me, he explained something called "drug interactions". Basically, each medication affects my body in a different way. Taking more than one at a time means it is important to consider how one medication might affect another.
Along with the anti-depressant, my doctor switched me to a different opioid for my pain. He said it may help reduce my pain without interfering with the other drugs I am taking.
I appreciate that my doctor explained how everything works. I feel more comfortable taking several medications knowing that I can call my doctor at any time if I have any questions or concerns. That open line of communication is very important to me.
Are you like Stella? Talk to your doctor to find out if OPANA ER is an appropriate choice for your moderate to severe chronic pain.
